Frequently asked questions about Manufacturing RPA
How do you commonly structure an RPA program?
The ideal world is a top-down, bottom-up approach where executive support communicates and supports an IA initiative driven by top-level goals and ideation is culture-driven from the bottom up. The only add here is when there is a variable different from the norm, the correct integration of the Six-Sigma team (CI team, process improvement, etc.). Properly executed, Six-Sigma teams are integrated within the process but do not ultimately own the automation program.
How do you choose a starting point? How do you prioritize?
Highly-automatable use cases are, as always, the best place to start as we need to bring executive support along through ROI. Automation programs sometimes fail because they automate processes that don’t move the business forward. That being said, after we identify KPIs and goals along with areas of the business that are time consuming or paper heavy, we would prioritize those opportunities first.
How do you qualify automation opportunities?
Process prioritization workbook / automation hub – the only difference here is whether or not UiPath software is being utilized. If this is an engagement that is net new, we would likely use the process prioritization workbook. If UiPath software is utilized, we will use an automation hub. That said, ultimately the decision is up to the CIO or whomever is the decision maker. Sometimes automations that bring a separate variable of value are prioritized over ROI.
What does IA look like for manufacturing?
IA for manufacturing looks very similar to other industries at the start of their journey. Unless there is a laser focused need to automate a pain point, it is most common to start in finance, IT, or HR. Next, the common thread or theme if you will is within supply chain. That could mean distribution, inventory management, or behind the scenes analytics.
Who owns the approval of automation ideas? IT or Business?
Business led and IT supported
How does UiPath work and where does Ashling come in?
UiPath is the software solution and or platform provider; Ashling is partner provider driving the execution of hyperautomation soup to nuts.
What does governance look like in an automation program?

Do you have the experience to be prescriptive in manufacturing RPA?
Yes! Driving ideation sessions, for example, are very similar to Six-Sigma / continuous improvement project discussions. That process as it stands today is very refined allowing for the ability to be prescriptive moving forward with a client.
